Undergraduate Comprehensive Exam
Spring 2004
The Undergraduate Comprehensive Examination is a graduation requirement for all
art history majors of the class of 2004.
The examination for all students expecting to graduate at any date in
2004 will be given on Sunday, February 1st at 1 p.m.in Room 113
of the Jaffe Building. A sign-up sheet will be posted outside the departmental
office.
The examination will reflect the full range of art history taught
by the department.
The Format of the Examination:
I. 25 Slide Identifications, 2 minutes each.
Provide these four pieces of information about each object or site.
- 1. Name of artist if known
- 2. Name of object
- 3. The location of the object if fixed; its regional or national school
if portable.
- 4. The absolute date of the object and art historical period.
II. 4 comparisons, 15 minutes each.

Identify each slide as in Part I, making sure to note which is on the left
and which on the right. Compare and contrast the slides in a short essay.
III. Essay (120 minutes)
A selection of broad questions will be offered. These will ask
for the elucidation of major topics or issues in art history, based on
a discussion of a small number of carefully chosen examples.
